The terms you buy under

These are the terms you buy under from Uganda Bookshop, Plot 4 Colville Street, Kampala, Uganda, when you order on this website.

Ordering

An order is placed when you complete checkout. We hold the copies you ordered from that moment, so nobody else can buy them while you pay. An order that is never paid for releases its books again automatically.

You can also place the order here and settle it with us on WhatsApp. The books are held in exactly the same way, and we confirm payment with you before they are sent.

Prices and stock

Prices are in Uganda shillings and include no separate tax line. The price charged is the price shown on the book when you check out, worked out by the shop rather than by your browser, so a page left open overnight cannot buy a book at yesterday's price.

Stock counts are real. If a book sells out between you adding it and paying, we tell you at checkout rather than taking the money. Where a price or a description is plainly wrong, we will contact you and cancel the order rather than send the wrong thing.

Payment

Card, MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money, taken by our payment provider on their own page. We never see or store your card number or your PIN. An order is not confirmed until the provider tells us the money arrived.

Payment when the books arrive is not offered.

Delivery and collection

Collection is free, at Plot 4 Colville Street, Kampala. We message you when the order is ready.

A courier charge for an area outside the listed towns is separate from the order, and we confirm it with you before the books are sent.

We do not promise a delivery time, because the courier does not give us one. We will tell you when your order is handed over. More about delivery.

Gift wrap

We gift wrap books free of charge, with a handwritten note from you. Tell us in the “Note for the shop” box at checkout, with the words you want on the note.

Returns

Tell us within 7 days of receiving a book if you want to return it. It needs to come back in the condition it arrived.

If a book reaches you damaged, or it is not the book you ordered, tell us and we will replace it or refund it. We agree how the book comes back with you before anything is sent. Write to help@ugandabookshop.com or message 0779 550 877.

Refunds go back the way the money came. Delivery already paid is not refunded unless the return is our mistake. How to return a book.

School lists and larger orders

Send us a school book list, or a list of titles for a school, office, church or club, and we reply with what we have and the price of each. Sending a list is not an order and costs nothing. You decide what to buy once you have our reply.

Accounts and reviews

You do not need an account to buy. If you make one, keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think somebody else has it.

Reviews are written by signed-in customers, one per book, and a member of staff reads each one before it appears. We remove reviews that are abusive, that are about something other than the book, or that are written to promote something else.

This website

Descriptions, cover images and prices are here to help you choose a book, and we correct them when we find them wrong. The text and images on this site belong to the shop or to the publishers whose books we sell.

These terms are governed by the law of Uganda.

  • The registered name of the business and its registration number
  • Whether the shop is registered with Uganda's Personal Data Protection Office
  • How long paid orders are kept before they are deleted
  • Who pays the courier on a return
  • Who to write to about data, if it is not the shop's own help address
