Women in Islam

Published in 2017 by the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), this third issue of the SIHA Journal, titled Women in Islam, explores critical contemporary debates surrounding women's rights, religion, and politics.

The volume gathers insightful analysis on key socio-political issues, featuring discussions such as 'Al-Turabi and the Women of Sudan: Commitment to Women's Rights or Political Ambition?' and 'Choosing Engagement over Retreat: Ziba Mir-Hosseini's Quest for Equality within Islamic Traditions.' It also investigates international controversies over bodily autonomy in 'Wielding Power over Women's Bodies: The Burkini Ban in France,' alongside a dedicated dossier examining the realities of living with religious militancy.

This issue serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students, activists, and general readers interested in gender studies, legal reform, and social affairs across the region and beyond.
