Emma

Emma Woodhouse is comfortable, clever and financially secure, living a peaceful life in Regency England with little desire to marry. Instead, she finds amusement in arranging the romantic lives of her neighbours and acquaintances. Despite her good intentions, Emma's excessive confidence in her matchmaking skills frequently blinds her to reality, drawing those around her into misunderstandings and confusion.

Jane Austen's celebrated novel offers a witty and perceptive comedy of manners, observing social customs, female friendship and the pitfalls of self-satisfaction. As her misguided plans unravel, Emma is forced to confront her own blind spots and recognise the true nature of her feelings. This Oxford World's Classics edition presents an enduring literary classic that will appeal to secondary school literature students, university scholars and anyone who enjoys finely crafted English fiction.
