A Column of Fire

Set in 1558 amidst the shadow of Kingsbridge Cathedral, A Column of Fire follows the turbulent lives of Ned Willard and Margery Fitzgerald. Deeply in love, their romance is strained when religious division pits their families against one another during a volatile period of English history.

When Elizabeth Tudor ascends the throne, England faces plots, uprisings, and hostility from rival European powers. To safeguard the crown, Ned enters the service of the new queen, working within an early secret intelligence network formed to thwart assassinations and rebellions. Across five decades of political unrest, the conflict spans Edinburgh, Geneva, and Paris, testing devotion, honour, and family allegiance.

Part of Ken Follett’s celebrated Kingsbridge series, this expansive historical novel brings sixteenth-century political intrigue and human resilience vividly to life. It will captivate both devoted followers of the author's previous sagas and general readers who enjoy immersive historical fiction.
